The city was named on this recent listicle.
Good morning. Here's what you need to know for the first day of this semester.
A few things might come to mind when Athens is talked about: parties, Ohio University and, for some, hippies.
According to a listicle by Reverb Press, Athens is one of the best hippie cities in the country for stressed out progressives, joining cities like Olympia, WA and Portland, ME. Reverb Press cited Athens’ festivals and local arts community, which apparently make it a near-perfect hippie haven.
But charismatic culture and organic restaurants aren’t the only things on the list. Supposed hauntings throughout the city, (notably at the Ridges cemetery), were also mentioned.
The listicle even gave a nod to Ohio Gov. and presidential hopeful John Kasich.
“Progressives in Ohio definitely could use a respite from the antics of their state GOP and Governor John Kasich,” the article states.
