Remember, we have three bookstores within a block.
Good morning. Here's what you need to know for Friday, Feb. 12, 2016:
A recent online movement wants to bring another bookstore to Athens.
Although Athens already can claim three bookstores within the same block Uptown, a petition recently started circulating online to lobby Mayor Steve Patterson to bring a Barnes and Noble to Athens.
The effort’s leader, Heather Wolf, said in the petition that a Barnes and Noble could benefit people throughout Athens County. It's worth noting there's one right by Ohio State University and one inside the Ohio Union.
For OU students, Wolf said she thinks “its warm ambiance will quickly become a new study place with the included Starbucks,” while the bookstore would also “create higher literacy rates among the poorest county in Ohio.”
