Post Haste: Athens got a Snapchat for a day then deleted it; College Gateway will be open for graduation after all

The city still has a Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, though.

Good morning. Here’s what you need to know for Wednesday, March 30, 2016:

Athens City officials steadily have been increasing the city's presence on social media. Currently, the city operates a Facebook, Twitter and an Instagram.

For a hot minute last week, the city also had a Snapchat.

According to Athens Deputy Service Safety Director Ron Lucas, the Snapchat was launched on March 21, but was quickly deactivated because the city can’t archive their snaps.

“We explored it a little bit, the problem is that our auto-archiving software is not compatible with Snapchat,” Lucas said. “From a public information standpoint, we can’t utilize it at this point.”
