Oberlin and Yellow Springs — both in Ohio — are on the list, too.
Good morning. Here’s what you need to know for Friday, April 1, 2016:
Almost two years after getting honors from a reader-submitted USA Today poll, Athens is on the inside path toward more recognition from the news outlet.
USA Today is running a series through April 25, where readers can vote for the best small college town. Out of 20 towns in the running, Athens currently ranks #1 on the leaderboard.
A description of Athens on the site calls it a “quirky” city surrounded by “lush land” in Southeast Ohio.
Behind Athens, Flagstaff, Arizona (Northern Arizona University) is second and Ithaca, New York (Cornell University) is third. Iowa City, Iowa (University of Iowa) and Williamsburg, Virginia (College of William and Mary) round out the top 5.
