Alleged gross sexual imposition from 1978 reported to Ohio University Police Department

Ohio University Police Department received a report of unwanted sexual conduct that allegedly occurred in 1978 on Tuesday.

A person reported an incident of gross sexual imposition that allegedly occurred in 1978 to the Ohio University Police Department on Tuesday.

The person reported unwanted sexual conduct on campus from a person known to him or her between Jan. 1 and April 1, 1978.

The report does not indicate whether the incident is under investigation and includes no other information.

The statute of limitations for gross sexual imposition is 20 years, according to the Ohio Revised Code, which could prevent prosecution of the alleged perpetrator.

The alleged incident is the first reported to OUPD since the end of Spring Semester, according to previous Post reports. During the 2015-16 academic year, OUPD and the Athens Police Department received 26 reports of alleged sex-related crimes, including seven reports of gross sexual imposition.

OUPD and APD received three reports of alleged sex-related crimes during summer 2015, one of them a gross sexual imposition.
