Cherry blossoms stand in bloom near the Hocking River and The Convo. Many people gather to take photos and see the flowers during the spring.

Capture OU's beauty at these Instagram-worthy spots

Here are some of the best places to help make your Instagram feed the envy of all your followers.

Anyone who has spent even the smallest amount of time on campus would agree — Ohio University is a very Instagram-worthy location.

Whether you’re snapping a photo of your morning coffee on the Front Room Coffeehouse patio or posing with your friends on College Green, the possibilities are endless. Here are some of the best places to help make your Instagram feed the envy of all your followers:

1. College Green

College Green is one of the most picturesque places on campus, particularly in the autumn when leaves have begun to change. The criss-crossed bricks and clusters of trees make the perfect backdrop for you and your friends, especially if you’ve strung a hammock.

2. The Ridges

Seen as spooky to some (perhaps because it used to be a psychiatric hospital for the mentally ill), The Ridges are a historical part of OU’s campus. Originally built in 1868, the buildings at The Ridges have now been partially converted to offices and also house the Kennedy Museum of Art. No matter what the buildings hold, they will always be a unique backdrop for any Instagram photo op.

3. Emeriti Park

Located on the walk from Baker Center to Ping Center, Emeriti Park has everything you could ever want in a picturesque OU setting: cherry blossoms surrounding a pond, grassy areas perfect for picnics and a covered gazebo overlooking the area. Particularly at dusk when the street lights flick on and fireflies come out, the photo possibilities become endless.

4. The graffiti walls

There’s one place you can continue reusing as a photo backdrop without ever becoming bored: the graffiti walls on Mulberry Street by Baker Center and Bentley Hall. Many choose to take selfies or group shots in front of these walls, which are often the source of controversy or scrutiny, but also the source of innocent drawings or encouraging messages.

5. Bike path cherry blossoms

Although perhaps somewhat dreary and unexciting in the winter months, once spring hits, the bike path along the Hocking River explodes with color thanks to the cherry blossoms that line its edges. People flock to the area to pose in front of the trees, which are even the subject of an entire festival.

6. South Beach

Though it might not be as popular a destination as its Miami namesake, the area around South Green’s sand volleyball courts is often filled with activity, particularly in the warmer months. South Beach is a great place to Instagram while playing volleyball or shooting hoops on the adjacent basketball courts.

7. Athens

Though it’s not altogether a part of Ohio University, the city of Athens is an Instagram-worthy place itself. Whether you’re chalking the wall in Bagel Street Deli or relaxing with a hot chocolate inside Donkey Coffee and Espresso, snap all the pictures you can. After the next four years are over, you’ll want the memories of Athens to look back on.
