Ohio University Police Department receives report of rape from October

A staff member told police another staff member was raped on Oct. 1 at 7 a.m., according to an Ohio University Police Department report.

Ohio University Police Department received a report Friday that a female OU staff member allegedly was raped in October.

A staff member told police another staff member was raped on Oct. 1 at 7 a.m., according to the police report.

The report indicates that the rape allegedly happened on campus, but does not provide a more specific location.

OUPD interviewed the survivor of the alleged rape, but she told department personnel that she did not want to file a report and did not wish to be contacted again, according to the report.

The report states that the case is inactive due to a lack of investigative leads.

Ohio law requires that anybody with knowledge of a felony, or certain other crimes, report it to law enforcement, according to the Ohio Revised Code. OU policy requires almost all faculty and staff to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance.

The alleged rape is the second report of an alleged sex-related crime OUPD has received since the end of Spring Semester.

On May 17, OUPD received a report of gross sexual imposition, according to a previous Post report. The person who reported the alleged crime told police that he or she had received unwanted sexual contact from someone he or she knew between Jan. 1 and April 1, 1978.

During the 2015-16 academic year, OUPD and the Athens Police Department received 26 total reports of sex-related crimes, including 11 reports of rape, according to previous Post reports.
