Athens man indicted for possession of 200 grams of cocaine

Editors' Note: This story has been updated to include information about Marshall's bail and pretrial.

A local man was indicted Monday by a grand jury in the Athens County Common Pleas Court for the possession and sale of cocaine, as well as tampering with records.

William Sidney Marshall, 37, was originally arrested for allegedly providing a fake address to his Adult Parole Authority officer, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn. Investigators received a warrant Aug. 31 to search Marshall's house at 64 1/2 Franklin St. in Athens. During their search, the investigators found over 200 grams of cocaine and $7,000 in cash.

Marshall’s bail was placed at $1 million.

The jury indicted him on counts of tampering with records, possession of cocaine, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, illegal manufacture of drugs and two counts of possessing criminal tools. Several of the counts included specifications, such as the Major Drug Offender Specification, which, for cocaine, is applied to an offender with more than 100 grams of the drug.

The first stage of Marshall’s pretrial will begin September 29. He is being held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
