Football: Ohio beats Kansas 37-21

Courtesy of a dominating first half, Ohio picked up its first win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 37-21 victory over Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

The win improves the Bobcats to 1-1, and offered another impressive performance from quarterback Greg Windham.

The redshirt senior quarterback went 19-36 for 167 passing yards and a passing touchdown. He also had 16 carries for 146 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Playing without A.J. Ouellette, the team’s starting running back entering the season, Ohio finished the game with 329 rushing yards.

Along with Windham’s rushing yards, Dorian Brown ran the ball 20 times for 122 yards. Maleek Irons had 39 yards and Papi White finished with 37, along with a rushing touchdown.

The last time Ohio had two rushers collect more than 100 yards each was in 2005.

Ohio was dominant defensively, too.

After forcing an early safety when Chad Moore tackled a Kansas running back in his own endzone.

The Bobcats held the Jayhawks to 232 total yards and only 26 rushing yards. A considerable chunk of Kansas’ total offense came on a 75-yard touchdown pass to start the second half.

Ohio will now travel to Tennessee next Saturday. The Volunteers are the No. 17 team in the country.
