Student Senate to hear from student trustees, Office of Global Opportunities

Ohio University's student trustees will discuss enrollment and retention rates during the Student Senate meeting this Wednesday night.

The senate body will also hear from the director of the Office of Global Opportunities and will vote to appoint new delegates for various commissions.

Brooke Mauro, the junior student trustee, says she and senior student trustee Patrick Roden plan to address OU’s freshman class — which is the third largest in history — and the fact that first-year retention rates have increased by 2 percent.

“That’s phenomenal,” Mauro said.

Also on the agenda is a brief discussion of OU’s plans to implement a satellite school in Dublin, Ohio.

Catherine Marshall, director of the Office of Global Opportunities, will present to the student body.

“It will be nice to hear from Catherine,” Student Senate President Hannah Clouser said. “We will have speakers from Global Opportunities throughout the year. This is the beginning of a three-speaker series of global initiations.”

Additionally, there will be a number of appointments, including the members of the Community and Social Activities Committee.

Clouser and Student Senate Vice President Courteney Muhl agree that all of the appointments are expected to go uncontested.

“Until we get a judicial panel and start making more external resolutions, they will be uncontested, for the most part,” Clouser said.

Senate expects to appoint delegates to the LGBTQA Affairs Commission, the International Affairs Commission and the Commissioner for Environmental Affairs.

“The process for appointment involves someone enthusiastically reaching out,” Muhl said. “Any appointments I expect to pass. There will be a good vibe.”
