The Athens County Sheriff's Office busted a marijuana operation Tuesday, finding more than 100 marijuana plants.
The sheriff's Criminal Interdiction Unit received a tip of a marijuana grow operation at a residence on Marion Johnson Road in Athens. With the help of the Major Crimes Unit, the CIU carried out a search warrant and found more than 100 marijuana plants in a grow room along with six additional plants outside.
The CIU seized all items related to the grow operation as evidence, along with four firearms.
While on the scene, the CIU contacted a neighbor and received consent to search inside that neighbor's residence. Inside, the CIU found evidence of another grow operation, along with several containers of marijuana and a firearm.
Request of indictment for Athens residents Charles Ruth and Richard Russell will be submitted to the grand jury.
