Athens Police Department receives second rape report in one week

A 20-year-old woman reported to the Athens Police Department on Monday that someone she knew had sexually assaulted her early Thursday morning.

An APD report classifies the incident as rape and states that it allegedly occurred at about 4 a.m. on the west end of Athens.

The report is under investigation, and no other information appears in the report.

This incident is the sixth alleged sex-related crime reported to local law enforcement since the beginning of Ohio University's Fall Semester, according to previous Post reports. Of the previous five reports, APD received two and the Ohio University Police Department received four.

In the most recent previous report, an 18-year-old woman reported an incident of alleged gross sexual imposition to APD on Friday. The woman alleged that someone she knew sexually assaulted her at about 2 a.m. that morning at an East State Street apartment.

Of the four alleged sex-related crimes OUPD has received three were reports of rape and one report of solicitation this semester.
