Ohio University Student Senate will vote on two resolutions concerning budgets at its meeting on Wednesday night.
The first is a resolution to fund a screening of the movie Freedom Writers, which would cost $33.24 and would come from the Minority Affairs budget. The second resolution is to fund a Residence Life event for $75, which would pay for apple cider, pumpkin bread, hot chocolate and caramel apple suckers.
“I think they’re both going to pass because they’re for very small amounts and for things that senate typically is in favor of,” Budget Committee Chair Jacob Haskins, the primary sponsor of both bills, said.
Environmental Affairs Commissioner Sarah Pinter agreed that the resolutions are likely to pass.
“Freedom Writers is an excellent movie,” she said. “I don’t see any reason why people wouldn’t want to show it.”
The resolutions at the meeting are not expected to stir much controversy, Treasurer Steve Lichtenfels said.
“I am generally expecting a relatively straightforward meeting,” Lichtenfels said. “None of the resolutions require significant debate.”
Senate is also scheduled to hear two presentations. Sara Trower, director of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance, will speak about the Bias Incident Reporting System and the legal and compliance issues that will be attributed to the system, and senate alumnus Greg T. Moore will encourage students to vote in the upcoming election.
During the Commission Reports, Pinter will inform senate about the Master of Science and Sustainability Management Event that will take place Nov. 15. David Green from American University will be a guest at the event, which will offer more opportunities for students interested in sustainability.
