Student Senate: Body will vote on seven resolutions

Members of Ohio University Student Senate will vote on four budgets, two appointments and one resolution at their meeting Wednesday night.

The Governmental Affairs Commission will be leading a topic of discussion about a proposed rule change, Student Senate Vice President Courteney Muhl said.

The commission wants the body’s feedback on a resolution in which the Rules and Procedures would designate a single member of the Governmental Affairs Commission to oversee voter registration and voter education.

“They recognized the amount of work that goes into voter registration and voter education is enough to detract from their ability to do other things,” Muhl said. “They want to make sure the Governmental Affairs Commission is being held accountable.”

Three resolutions are budgets to fund lodging for Pride Week keynote speakers, the Environmental Justice Summit and Nelson Commons for Blaktransmagik. The fourth budget is to partially fund an honorarium for Blaktransmagik.

Muhl expects all budgets, appointments and resolutions to pass.

The funds for Pride Week keynote speakers and the Environmental Justice Summit have already been allocated, Muhl said.

If the appointments pass, Scripps College of Communication Senator Connor Attrell will fill a vacancy on the internal budget committee and SAC Senator At-Large Zach Woods will become the Chair of the Standing Committee on Senators Emeriti.

Muhl will be serving as President Pro Tempore in the absence of President Hannah Clouser.

Members of Student Senate will not discuss the upcoming senate election at the meeting. Student Senate's Rules and Procedures state elections cannot be discussed in shared senate spaces, Clouser said.
