White’s Mill to host food truck and shopping event

White’s Mill is putting on an event where people can purchase local products and enjoy food from an Ohio Foothills Catering food truck.

Tyler Williams and his wife Megan are the chefs at Ohio Foothills Custom Catering. Tyler is a longtime friend of Tyler Schloss, the owner of White’s Mill, 2 Whites Mill Dr. Williams has cooked for White’s Mill previously at its open house and Christmas party. He and Megan have been operating a food truck for a year. Along with the food truck, Ohio Foothills Catering also offers catering services and personal chefs. Previously, Williams cooked in restaurants, but he said the food truck life seemed like a good change.

“I wanted a mobile kitchen, and the food truck scene was hot,” Williams said. “I thought (having a food truck) would be a good change of pace.”

Schloss said the event is through the Athens Chamber of Commerce. White’s Mill is a shop offering local products from lawn and garden supplies to handmade jewelry.

“(The Chamber of Commerce) picks a random business, and try to get other chamber members to come,” he said. “We’re going to have a food truck here and shops ... and all of our locally produced products will be ten percent off.”

Since building the food truck from scratch, Tyler and Megan have done events from Athens Brew Week to catering bridal showers. Tyler describes his food as “fun street food,” but doesn’t want to get tied down to one specific food style.

Tyler uses local food whenever he can, but that can get difficult in the winter. He and Megan also grow some of their own produce.

“I buy from local farmers,” Tyler said. “(And we grow) tomatoes, peppers, squash and herbs.”

Tyler likes the food truck business because it allows him to cater events like White’s Mill. He likes working for himself.

In the future, Schloss would like to set up an area at White’s Mill for Tyler and Megan to have access to full time. They would be able to come and cook during events that suit them.

“We would like to put him in his own area,” Schloss said. “His garlic fries are to die for.”
