The Athens County Major Crimes Unit arrested a man for felony possession of drugs on Ohio University's campus Friday.
That afternoon, Ohio University Police Department officers stopped a vehicle on Bobcat Lane. Officers searched the vehicle and found a backpack containing 100 doses of LSD and about an ounce of hallucinogenic mushrooms, according to a news release.
Officers from the major crimes unit arrested Randall Zimmer from Liberty Township, a passenger of the vehicle who they say owned the backpack. He was charged with a third-degree felony for possessing the LSD and a fifth-degree felony for possessing the mushrooms.
A third-degree felony conviction comes with a maximum fine of $10,000 and 1-5 years in prison. A fifth-degree felony conviction comes with a maximum fine of $2,500 and 6-12 months in jail.
The investigation is ongoing. Police collected several other items of evidence from the vehicle and expect additional charges to follow.
