An Athens man has been accused of strangling a 71-year-old woman during a burglary attempt in Chauncey.
Mary C. Robinson was found dead on Friday, according to an Athens County Sheriff’s Office news release. A preliminary autopsy found that the cause of death was strangulation.
William D. Blair, a 54-year-old resident of Gun Club Road in Athens, has been charged with aggravated murder, trafficking in drugs, burglary and possession of controlled substances. He is being held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on $1 million bond. He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in the Athens County Municipal Court.
In 2005, Blair pleaded no contest to breaking and entering and vandalism charges, according to court documents.
