Campus cops issue 20 citations for drinking and marijuana during Welcome Weekend

As Ohio University students partied through their first weekend back on campus, OU police officers wrote 20 drug and alcohol citations.

This weekend’s numbers show a sharp increase in activity from this summer. Over the weekend of Aug. 18 to 20, OUPD officers wrote one citation for underage drinking, one citation for public intoxication and no citations for marijuana possession.

Most of this weekend’s citations involved possession of marijuana or marijuana paraphernalia, according to the department’s public radio log. OUPD officers wrote a total of 14 marijuana-related citations, and between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, OUPD officers wrote five marijuana-related citations on South Green.

Officers wrote six citations for underage drinking and three for possessing fake IDs over the weekend.

Additionally, two men told police they were assaulted at Sargent Hall early Saturday morning.

This year’s Welcome Weekend citations were a slight decrease from last year’s citations.

During the 2016 Welcome Weekend, OUPD officers issued 23 drug and alcohol citations — 11 for alcohol-related incidents and 12 for possession of marijuana or marijuana paraphernalia. Officers cited four people for underage consumption and six for disorderly conduct.
