Kent State football coach Paul Haynes will leave the program, effective immediately, due to health concerns. Haynes will return to the team in two to three weeks.
The story was first reported by KentWired, Kent State's student newspaper.
Haynes has a 12-35 record in his four years as head coach. He previously coached at Arkansas, Ohio State and Michigan State. Haynes played at Kent State from 1987-1991.
“We fully support head coach Paul Haynes during his leave," Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen said in a release this evening. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Haynes family as we look forward to his return to Kent State.”
Offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will take over as interim head coach for the time being. Treadwell was a head coach at Miami for three years and posted a 8-21 record. Kent State opens the season at Clemson on Saturday.
Ohio faces Kent State at Peden Stadium on Oct. 21, where Haynes will have returned.
