Athens Football: Treyce Albin is a key to Bulldogs' success

Treyce Albin can be seen all over the field.

He returns kicks, plays wide receiver and also cornerback. He contributes in all phases of the game.

On the Bulldogs' second offensive play of the season, Albin caught an 81-yard touchdown. He was always near the ball on defense and set up his team with decent kick and punt returns.

“(Albin) is always going to be a key to a lot of things for us,” coach Ryan Adams said. “He’s definitely the fastest kid on the field.”

Other than the highlight play to score Athens’ first touchdown of the season, Albin was also helping out his quarterback, Clay Davis. Adams noted one play where Albin caught a pass off of a slant route in traffic. The confidence that Albin displays in the middle of the field shows his teammates that they can do the same thing, and allow the Bulldogs to have an explosive offense.

“They’re not hearing feet right now, and hopefully that continues,” Adams said.

Even when the passing game isn't working for the Bulldogs, Albin can be used as one of their most explosive weapons.

In the Bulldogs' second game against Canal Winchester, a rainy game that ended in a loss, they ran multiple jet sweeps that Albin took for big plays, including a touchdown off of one.

On the other side of the ball, Canal Winchester was effective through the air, but later in the game Albin adjusted.

The adjustments Albin can make in-game or his ability to help stop the Bulldogs opponent's passing game is huge for a team that plays a lot of close games.

“When you got a kid with coming back with the experience he has at corner, he’s got to play,” Adams said.
