DJ Rick Web performs at the Athens DJ Showcase at The Union on Sept. 28, 2017. As a DJ, Web must have his music files stored locally on his computer, which he gets through online music subscription services like Promo Only.

Weekender Briefs: Halloween festivities will take over Court Street this weekend

Friday

80s Night with DJ Barticus at 10 p.m. at Casa Nueva, 6 W. State St. Those in the mood for some good ol’ fashion '80s nostalgia will get to enjoy DJ Barticus’ tunes. Dance and drink to all of the wonderful music of the '80s. Admission is $5 for those 21 and over and $7 for those under 21. 

Jake Dunn and the Black Birds at 10 p.m. at the Smiling Skull Saloon, 108 W. Union St. Celebrate with Jake Dunn and the Black Birds during the release show of their first full length album release, Nowhere Feels Like Home. Admission is $3.

Saturday

Union Halloween Party at 9 p.m. at The Union, 18 W. Union St. featuring Hellnaw, Gudger, and Mobile Home, this Halloween party will only admit attendees over the age of 21. The party is bound to be intense and take the spooky spirit of Halloween to a whole new level. Admission is $5.

Appalachian Hillside Revolution at 10 p.m. at the Smiling Skull Saloon, 108 W. Union St. Appalachian Hillside Revolution is playing at the Skull during the Halloween Block Party. There is no mention of a cover charge in any of the advertising for the event online, however, the Skull generally charges $5 to $10 at the door when bands are playing so anyone planning to attend should have some cash on hand.

Musical Trick-or-Treat Party at 11 a.m. at Athens Mini Maestros, 94 Columbus Rd. Concerned parents looking to keep their kids away from the craziness happening uptown this weekend, but still want to do something fun for the holidays, will enjoy this event. This musical trick-or-treat party is designed for families with kids ages zero to 12. There will be songs, games, stories, and snacks. Admission is free.

Sunday

Little Shop of Horrors at 7 p.m. at the Athena Grand, 1008 E. State St. The 1986 comedy horror cult classic is playing at the Athena Grand for one night only. For fans of the film it is sure to be worth paying the increase in price from the usual $5. Admission is $12.50.
