What you need to know about parking during Halloween Weekend

Because of its famous festivities, the population of Athens doubles during Halloween weekend. Every aspect of OU is affected by Halloween, and parking is no exception.

Due to the large number of people coming to Athens, OU Parking Services will only allow OU faculty, staff and students to park in university lots. Any vehicle not clearly displaying an OU parking permit will receive a citation, according to the OU website.

Off-campus parking is available for $10 at the Athens County Fairgrounds. Gates will open 11 a.m. Friday and stay open all weekend. Proceeds from the fee for off-campus parking will benefit the Junior Fair Program.

City buses will also be running. Parking areas will be well lit with security and provide port-a-johns and a shuttle to the city buses.

Halloween regulations begin Saturday at 8 p.m. and end Sunday at 6 a.m. Campus will be “closed” during that time.

Pay-by-the-hour parking will be available at any meter for short-term or hourly parking. Vehicles parked illegally because of expired time or failure to pay time will receive a citation.

There will not be pay-by-the-hour parking in the Baker University Center Garage, and it will close to the public at 3 a.m. Saturday.

Vehicles parked illegally, parked in the grass, blocking or impeding traffic flow or drive areas, or within a disability space are subject to fines and may be towed.

Vehicles without a permit will receive a $150 violation. Any citations not paid within 90 days will be turned to collections.

A number of university events conflict with Halloween lot closures, including the Women’s volleyball game at the Convocation Center on Saturday. Those attending the event may park in the outer rings of the Convocation Center until 10 p.m.
