Athens City Council will meet Monday night to discuss the domestic registry requirements. Any citizen in domestic partnership can register with the city, and council plans to discuss updating how they maintain the registry.
Council will also discuss city credit card policy. It will go over statements at its meeting, which serves as a regular checks and balances for the accounts.
“State legislature passed legislation that, as I understand, requires municipalities to have a credit card policy in place,” Athens City Council President Chris Knisley said.
Council members will also hear presentations from the Athens County Economic Development Council and American Electric Power, or AEP.
According to the EDC’s website, it is a “public-private partnership committed to increasing economic opportunity in Athens County by encouraging entrepreneurship, recruiting new businesses, and helping existing businesses grow and expand.” The City of Athens and Ohio University are partnered with the EDC.
Members will also continue to discuss the 2018 city budget. According to a previous Post report, Athens City Auditor Kathy Hecht said council is still working on the budget with meetings planned up to December.
