TV Review: Trust is a delicate matter in the game of 'Survivor'

With the merge quickly approaching, things were sure to get dicey, and that they did on this week’s episode of Survivor.

The opportunity for players to hide themselves in the game is becoming increasingly more difficult, which means worthy threats have a much larger target on their back. Idols are being found left and right, blindsides are sending players home in shocking fashion and strong relationships are becoming pivotal, leaving no one sure of their safety. With that, it’s time to take a look at the most influential moments in Wednesday’s episode of Survivor

A crazy blind side left one player on the outs

In frustration from losing the vote in last week’s tribal council, Ali felt betrayed by Ryan and confronted him. The two devolved into a shouting match because Ali was upset Ryan did not tell her. However,  Ryan defended himself by saying Ali and Roark were too close with each other. Meanwhile, as Ali was visibly upset and thought she was at the bottom, Chrissy felt she now has complete trust with Ryan after the shocking move.

Cole continues to jeopardize his position in the tribe

After a great moment in which Mike caught his first fish, Cole was left with an entire fish to himself and still asked for more food. The action caused a war of words between him and Lauren, as she felt he was not thinking of the tribe. However, Cole felt he needs more food to be able to perform at challenges. Later, Cole took a huge fall while passing out at camp, clearly low on nutrients. The incident caused continued concern between Ben and Doctor Mike, who called him a liability and solidified an alliance between them and Lauren.

Another idol is found on the Levu tribe

Obviously deadlocked at 2 versus 2, Devon and Ashley decided they need to try to convince Desi into voting for Joe. Ashley was able to make Desi consider the option while Devon was off babysitting Joe. Even with Devon there, Joe was able to locate the clue for the idol, which was buried four feet from the well. Later that night, he secured his second idol in the game and also his safety.

A new immunity challenge makes for an intense finish

This week, the players had to balance a platform, each with a rope, and stack letters on it. The challenge took a huge learning curve, with each tribe holding a lead at some point. Yawa jumped out to an early lead and nearly took the win before its entire stack fell before the last letter. The door was then opened for Levu and Soko, but Yawa caught up quickly and secured the win. Eventually, Levu was able to hold steady.  Soko’s letters fell, which spelled a date with Jeff at tribal council.

The art of the blind side once again takes precedent

Expectancy of the merge is becoming very clear, which drew Ryan to believe JP and his physical prowess might need to go next. Ali made amends with Ryan, and she agreed JP had to leave. Ryan discussed that with Chrissy just before tribal, and she felt undecided in the decision. At tribal, Ali talked about her confrontation with Ryan but made it known they are on good terms now. JP’s challenge expertise is brought up by Jeff, who remained very laid-back and stuck to his “quiet” game. After the votes were cast, Ali was blindsided by both Ryan and Chrissy due to a lack of trust.

Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
