Football: Ohio to face UAB in Bahamas Bowl

Ohio will head to the Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 22 to face UAB, according to a report from college football insider Brett McMurphy.

The Bobcats finished their season Friday at Buffalo with a 31-24 loss to finish the season at 8-4 and 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference. After starting 8-2, Ohio faltered down the stretch and fell to Akron and Buffalo. Akron will play in the MAC Championship Game on Dec. 2 against Toledo.

It will be Ohio's third straight bowl game, and the ninth bowl game under coach Frank Solich. Last season, Ohio lost 28-23 in the Dollar General Bowl in Mobile, Ala. to Troy. The Bobcats are 2-6 in bowl games under Solich and 2-8 all time.

The 2017 season marked the ninth straight season in which Ohio reached bowl eligibility. In Solich's 13 years as coach, the Bobcats have only not reached bowl eligibility twice.

UAB finished 8-4 and 6-2 in Conference USA.

The Blazers are in their first season back after a two-year hiatus, in which their football program was briefly canceled before being reinstated. The Blazers canceled the program in December 2014.

The next summer, the program announced it would be reinstated in 2017 and be immediately bowl eligible. UAB has only played in one bowl game prior, the 2004 Hawaii Bowl against Hawaii. UAB lost 59-40.

Ohio has never played in the Bahamas Bowl and has never played UAB.
