The Athens County Major Crimes Unit seized Xanax and cash from a Mill Street apartment Thursday.

Police arrested Cody Wootton and Zach Vaughn, both 21, according to a news release. They were taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and charged with one count each of trafficking in a controlled subject.

The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation into illegal prescription drug trafficking, according to the release.

At the scene, police collected more than $1,200 in cash, about 300 bars and pills of Xanax, and a ledger book with records of transactions. According to the release, the Xanax was going to be marketed to college students.

The men were charged with fourth degree felonies, which are punishable with a maximum fine of $5,000 and up to 18 months in prison.
