Trustees approve nearly $2 million videoboard for The Convo

At its meeting last week, the Ohio University Board of Trustees approved the construction of a nearly $2 million videoboard for The Convo.

The videoboard has a projected budget of $1,979,705. Construction is scheduled to begin this fiscal year and will be completed before the fiscal year 2019.

"This project will purchase a large, center hung video/scoreboard using modern LED technology replacing the current four wall mounted board on the floor level arena that are 15 years old and at the end of the designed life expectancy," the Board of Trustees agenda reads. "This project will provide updates to the current media controls and adjustment to the stadium audio system."

Funding for the project will come from "Internal Bank/Reserves" and will be entirely funded by Ohio athletics. The project is expected to be completed before the start of athletic events in The Convo in fall 2018.

The Convo currently has a scoreboard at each corner of the floor with two video boards next to the scoreboards. Nothing is above the floor except for a circular banner that reads "Welcome to Ohio" and "Stand up and Cheer!"

The agenda lists the videoboard at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center for inspiration.

Last January, the board approved a $715,000 project to replace the scoreboard at Peden Stadium.
