Athens Basketball: Athens looks to kickstart TVC run against Meigs

This season has not been the best so far for the Athens Bulldogs.

With a record of 3-9, the Bulldogs have not played the way they would like to up to this point.

Those three wins, however, have came in conference game, giving the Bulldogs a record of 3-3 in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio. That means Athens is only two games behind the league leader Vinton County.

If the Bulldogs can start winning conference games, they can make up ground, and potentially accomplish their ultimate goal going into the season: win the TVC.

“We just have to stay focused on what we’re doing, and our focus is winning a TVC title,” coach Mickey Cozart said at the beginning of the season.

A start for the Bulldogs to turning around their season will be Friday night with a road game against Meigs. The Mauraders are 1-4 in conference, which seems like the Bulldogs will have a strong chance to jump start a title run.

Athens won the first matchup against Meigs 54-45, but the Bulldogs know that they cannot rely on a easy win.

“You got to be on point every night,” Cozart said. “Somebody can sneak up and get you if you’re not ready.”
