Athens pushed its winning streak to eight games with wins on both Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Bulldogs went to River Valley and won 67-46. To close out the weekend, Athens beat Federal Hocking 63-39 in Charles McAfee Gymnasium on Saturday. It was the Bulldogs’ senior night for their five seniors: Micah Saltzman, Robert Dickelman, Dalton Cozart, Nathan Whitehead and Austin Koska.
All the seniors, except Cozart, got their names on the scoresheet. Cozart has been out with a leg injury.
Other Bulldogs scoring Saturday included Logan Maxfield with 17, Justin Hynes with 16 and Eli Chubb with 10.
On Sunday, Athens received its draw for the sectional tournament. The Bulldogs are the No.5 seed and will play No. 4 Vinton County on Feb. 23 at Logan High School.
The Bulldogs split their season series with the Vikings, with each team winning on the road. Athens’ win was the second game of its current win streak.
Athens won its sectional last season, beating Sheridan on a last-second layup. The Bulldogs will hope to return to The Convo for the district tournament for the second consecutive season.
