Sibs Weekend. (FILE PHOTO by Eli Hiller)

How to spend Sibs Weekend without siblings

Ohio University students have siblings coming from all over to spend Sibs Weekend on campus with them. However, many students either do not have siblings or have siblings who are unable to come down for the weekend. Just because it is Sibs Weekend does not mean that the whole weekend has to be devoted to them.

There is no need to be bitter about the weekend because of the older and younger siblings running in the dorms, taking the last pancake in the dining hall or walking around Uptown. If a sibling cannot make it, there are plenty of options to still have an amazing weekend.

If a sibling is unable to come down to visit, there will be plenty of friends with siblings who could be “adopted” for parts of the weekend. If you really want to hangout with a sibling, give friends a break, who are most likely already annoyed with their siblings, and take them around campus as if they are actually your sibling. Show them favorite spots on campus, take them to get food Uptown or in the dining halls and introduce them to other friends. There will be more than enough siblings on campus for everyone to share. There is nothing holding Athens back from having a typical, fun weekend. Spending the weekend without a sibling will be like any other weekend on campus without them.

There are multiple on campus activities planned for sibs weekend such as hiking, movies and painting that is open to everyone. A group of friends with or without siblings are still able to participate. There is enough room on campus for all students and siblings to have a memorable weekend.
