Swim & Dive: Prepping for the MAC Championships

There is no other meet like the MAC Championships. Ohio is set to host the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships this Wednesday through Saturday.

From the start of the season, teams are looking ahead to the MAC Championships. The meet takes place over four days, unlike dual-meets, which occur in a two-hour span.

Despite hosting the meet, the Bobcats will not be sleeping in their own beds but at a hotel to make sure there are no distractions for the team. The team will not be attending classes during the meet, either, as there are events during the day.

With eight teams in the MAC, there are a large number of swimmers and divers, so preliminaries for individual events will be in the morning and all finals will be in the evening.

There will be two finals for each event — consolation and championship — with every swimmer that makes one of those earning at least a point for their team.

Normally during dual-meets, there is barely one minute in between races, but, for the MAC Championships, there is a five-minute break during the preliminaries. This allows more rest and faster times for swimmers competing in more than one of the preliminary events.

Preliminaries and finals will be open to the public one hour before the first event. For students, entry is free with a student ID from a MAC school.
