Athens residents indicted for murder of infant

An Athens man and woman have been indicted for the murder of a 3-month-old infant.

Jerry Wayne Andresen, 21, and Christina Leigh Hazlett, 23, were indicted March 23 for aggravated murder, murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, felonious assault, two counts of permitting drug abuse and three counts of domestic violence, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

At a Wednesday hearing, Blackburn said the child died in Hazlett’s care after being shaken by Andreson. A coroner’s report found that the child had week-old broken bones, Blackburn said. He said the child could have survived if Hazlett had sought medical attention for it.

“Andresen and Hazlett are further accused of not only allowing the trafficking of drugs in and out of their residence, in addition to using drugs themselves, but also causing physical harm, not only to each other, but to the infant in the days and weeks leading up to the death of the infant,” Blackburn said in the news release.

Andresen and Hazlett will be arraigned April 4.
