Letter to the Editor: Athens resident urges Democrats to vote for Rob Jarvis

Although I write for the citizenry generally, I particularly hope to persuade my fellow Democrats voting in the May 8 primary election to nominate Rob Jarvis as our candidate for Congress representing the people of Ohio’s 15th congressional district.

One issue is illustrative: Rob Jarvis would seek to enact single payer healthcare. The other active primary candidate proposes that the age for Medicare eligibility be reduced to 55.

Come on. If Medicare is a good idea for people 55 years of age, why is it not a good idea for people age 45, 35 or 25?

Additionally, as Rob points out, not only is “Medicare for All” the best national solution to covering healthcare for all Americans, it would help the economy because workers would not be afraid to leave one job for another out of concern that they might lose medical coverage. The result would be freed-up workers and entrepreneurial energy. This reason for making single health care available to all Americans applies at least as much, if not more, to people under 55 as to people over 55.

As Rob puts it, end job lock.

Democrats should stop mincing around on economic issues. One way to do that is to vote in the May 8th Democratic primary for Nelsonville resident and Tri County Career Center government teacher Rob Jarvis. Check out his website at robjarvisforcongress.com
