Student Senate: Board of Trustees chair and vice chair give presentation

Ohio University Student Senate heard a presentation from two OU Board of Trustees executives at its meeting Wednesday.

Board of Trustees Chair Janetta King and Vice Chair Dave Scholl gave a presentation outlining their responsibilities and urging students to apply for the student trustee position.

"The two student trustees that are with us are just phenomenal. They represent the institution extremely well,”  Scholl said. “As I become chair, I want more than five applicants for those positions. I’m not saying we shouldn't be proud of the five, it’s just, why aren’t there 50?”

Deb Schaffer, vice president for Finance and Administration, was not present at the meeting due to a scheduling mixup, according to Senate Vice President Nicole Schneider. Environmental Affairs Commissioner Lydia Ramlo also did not give a presentation as scheduled on the agenda.

Resolutions updating the duties of the Environmental Affairs commission and the Residence Life commission passed.

A third resolution appointing a member to the Residence Life commission passed.

Student Senate’s recent constitutional amendments, including the addition of a bill of rights section, will not be presented at Thursday's Board of Trustees meeting. They will instead be discussed at the June 22 meeting on OU’s Chillicothe campus.

“I would ... much rather it be on the Athens campus for the students to actively engage in our ‘bill of rights’ section,” Student Senate President Landen Lama said. “But, everything happens for a reason. So, that’s that.”
