Police Blotter: Child forced to do chores; call reports a vehicle playing loud music

Chores are often hard work.

A juvenile called Athens County 911 on April 20 from his grandfather's residence, where he sought refuge from his father, who he said had forced him to do chores. 

The juvenile said he was not feeling well and was getting too winded from doing his chores, according to the sheriff’s report. He said he felt he was on the verge of an emotional breakdown from the stress. 

The juvenile was sent home with his father. Deputies told him that he could take a break if his health required it, but he would still be expected to finish his chores.

Number blunder

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the parking lot of the Dollar General on United Lane on April 20 for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the back parking lot.

The vehicle was suspected of playing loud music, according to the sheriff’s report. Deputies found the vehicle to be vacant. The music the caller heard was coming from Number Fest. 

The friend who wouldn’t leave

The sheriff’s office responded to a report April 21 of a suspicious man trespassing at a residence on Slater Drive. 

The man said he was there at the invitation of a friend, according to the sheriff’s report. The homeowner was not familiar with the suspect or his alleged friend and asked him to leave. 

Deputies ordered the man to leave several times. He refused and said he would rather go to jail. Deputies arrested him for criminal trespassing and transported him to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail without further incident.

Imaginary man 

The sheriff’s office responded to Ten Spot Road on April 22 in reference to a man hallucinating.

While hallucinating, the man grabbed a machete that he planned to use to remove an imaginary person who was hiding under a vehicle, according to the sheriff’s report. The family stopped the man from attacking the imaginary person before deputies responded. 

Deputies spoke with the man, who was still seeing imaginary people. Deputies transported the man to OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital to be cleared medically and evaluated.

Surprise party 

The sheriff’s office responded to Palmer Street in Jacksonville on April 22 in reference to a man and woman fighting in the street. 

While in route, deputies were told that they couple went to a Jacksonville park, according to the sheriff’s report. 

Deputies arrived at the park and found a large group of people having a children's birthday party. No one was located that matched the descriptions given by the caller. 

Loose piggy

The sheriff’s office received a report of a loose pig April 21 on Rock Riffle Road. 

The complainant was able to capture the pig and detain it until deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s report. Friends of the complainant found the owner of the pig a few miles away. 

Deputies spoke with the owner when they retrieved the pig and gave them a verbal warning for an animal at large.

Drug bust 

The sheriff’s office conducted a traffic stop on State Route 56 on April 21. 

Deputies arrested a woman for the possession of psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana and an unknown substance believed to be a form of ecstasy, according to the sheriff’s report. She was arrested and charged with possession, a felony. 

Additional charges may be pending. The woman was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail without incident.

Unknown neighbor 

The sheriff’s office responded to the apartments on Union Lane for a neighbor complaint April 23. 

The complainant said there was a man living next to him whom he didn't know, according to the sheriff’s report. 

Deputies spoke with the property manager who said he would look into the issue tomorrow.
