Although this week saw record-high temperatures and gas prices around the nation, there are still plenty of funny things in the news to end the week smiling.
National Mall Makeover
Since June 29, people flocked to the National Mall in Washington D.C. to do their part in a patriotic cause. More than 2,800 people worked together to build a 16 feet by 31 feet American Flag made entirely out of LEGO bricks.
The installation is part of LEGO Americana Roadshow organized the display, which honors famous buildings and structures.
There are also LEGO replicas of the Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson memorials at the National Mall.
Hedging the Scales
After all the hot dogs and cake with thick blue icing on Independence Day, you might be feeling the need to watch what you eat — and you’re in good company. Arbuckle, a hedgehog, has been put on a diet.
Arbuckle is possibly the United Kingdom’s heaviest hedgehog ever, weighing a little more than 5 pounds. He is about four times the weight of an average hedgehog.
Arbuckle was taken in by a civilian last winter and when the weather got warmer, the spiky mammal was hesitant to leave his companion’s home. The New Arc Animal Rescue Centre, where Arbuckle now resides, said it thinks he didn’t want to return to the wild because he was very well fed at his domesticated life.
If Walls Could Talk
Have you ever wondered about the people who lived in your house before you? While remodelling their bathroom this summer, Jess and Alex Monney came across a strange remnant from the previous family who lived in their home.
The Monney’s contractor discovered a message from the Shinseki family, who remodeled the bathroom in 1995, in the wall. The message featured a photo of both the couple and a rabbit named Cassie. The couple also posed a question, “What’s wrong with the way we did (the remodel)?!?!?”
