APD receives its third rape report of semester

The Athens Police Department received a report of rape from OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital on Tuesday, according to a news release issued by the department Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred Monday in an apartment on the south side of Athens.

According to the release, the survivor is weighing her criminal justice options, and APD is ready to proceed with an investigation if she chooses to pursue one.

This is the third rape reported to APD since the beginning of OU's Fall Semester. Eight cases of sexual assault — six rapes, including this one, and two sexual impositions — have been reported to the Ohio University Police Department and APD since Aug. 25.

Based on the information available as of press time, the case does not appear to be connected to any previously reported cases, according to the news release.
