Athens Police Department receives three sexual assault reports

Three reports of sexual assault have been reported to the Athens Police Department since Sept. 28.

On Sept. 28, APD responded to a report of rape and collected a sexual assault evidence kit at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital. According to the report, the victim does not wish to speak with an officer at this time, but a report was taken.

On Oct. 1, APD took a report of a rape that occurred in September 2015. The report was made by an anonymous woman who did not want contact with police or an investigation into the incident, according to the report.

On Tuesday at about 2 a.m., a 37-year-old woman reported she was a victim of sexual assault on the city’s south side by a known subject, according to the report. The case is under investigation and no further information will be released at this time pending said investigation.

With the addition of these reports, there have been 19 reports of sexual assault in Athens since Aug. 25. APD has received 14 reports of sexual assault — 10 rape reports and four reports of sexual imposition or assault. The Ohio University Police Department has received five reports of sexual assault — four reports of rape and one report of gross sexual imposition.
