Football: Instant reactions from Ohio's dominant Homecoming win

Ohio (4-3, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) extended its winning streak against Bowling Green (1-7, 0-4 MAC) to three games Saturday afternoon at Peden Stadium, defeating the Falcons 49-14.

Here are The Post’s instant reactions from the Bobcats’ dominant win.

Air Canada

On Saturday, Nathan Rourke threw for four touchdown passes, a career-high for the junior quarterback. A week after sputtering in the fourth quarter against Northern Illinois, Rourke didn’t even have to play in the fourth.

He passed for two touchdowns in the first quarter. The first was a classic Ohio ladder route inside the end zone to Papi White. He then found an open Andrew Meyer on the next series for a 24-yard catch-and-run.

The Bobcats started the second quarter fast too, as Rourke hit White again for a touchdown, a 76-yard pass. His final touchdown pass was a play-action pass, which he rolled out to his left and hit Cam Odom for 15 yards.

Stifling defense

Ohio wasn’t perfect Saturday afternoon, but significant improvement was shown on the defensive front. The Bobcats allowed over 300 yards of offense, but limited the Falcons to just 14 points. It seemed like Saturday was headed to a shootout as Jarret Doege hit Scott Miller for a 57-yard touchdown pass on third down on Bowling Green’s opening series

The Bobcats cleaned up from there, though. That was the only true chunk play that they allowed all afternoon.

Back to normal?

On Homecoming, the Bobcats seemed like they were back to normal. Nathan Rourke put a clinic on the Falcons defense, while Ohio didn't give Bowling Green anything on offense. Ohio was flying around, forcing turnovers and putting up touchdowns. Saturday felt like a much needed fresh start for Ohio.

While Bowling Green drops to 1-7 on the season, Ohio impressed Saturday to get back on track to its MAC Championship aspirations. The Bobcats will be on a short time frame as they host Ball State on Thursday night.
