Athens City Council members to discuss transportation, finances and personnel

Members of Athens City Council will discuss Complete Streets, a policy that encourages support for non-motorized vehicles, according to the Athens Non-motorized Transportation Plan.

Currently, there is an effort to get a complete streets policy incorporated into the next federal transportation bill. The effort would make all streets safe and convenient to all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists.

The finance committee will discuss an amendment on staffing and appropriations and transfers. There will also be resolutions on the government shutdown, which was lifted on Friday.

Home ruled will also be discussed. Home rules is a policy that allows municipalities the right to keep certain powers separate from the Revised Code, according to the legislative service commission.
