Women's Basketball: Instant reactions to Ohio's blowout win over Eastern Michigan

So far every game in Mid-American Conference play for Ohio’s been difficult. After going 11-0 in nonconference match-ups, the Bobcats hoped their dominance would carry over, but it didn’t. On Saturday in The Convo, the Bobcats experienced the style of winning they were accustomed to in the beginning of the season with an 85-44 thrashing of Eastern Michigan.

Here are instant reactions from Ohio’s third consecutive win.

Shooters shoot

To start the game Ohio was abysmal from 3-point range. The shot selection was bad and the result was evident of that. The Bobcats were 1-of-7 heading into the second quarter, but while some teams would abandon the 3 and focus on developing a solid mid-range game, Ohio decided to shoot itself out of its slump. The Bobcats used their short memory in the second quarter and shot  3-pointers at every opportunity. Ohio made 7 3s in a row and finished the quarter 8-for-10. The hot streak propelled Ohio into the locker with a 43-18 lead that it never relinquished.

Doseck hitting 3s

While the entire team picked up it’s shooting, senior forward Dominique Doseck led the charge. Once she made her first 3, there was no stopping her. While guards Erica Johnson and Cece Hooks were carving Eastern Michigan a part with their handles, Doseck was getting to her spots and knocking down the open shot. She lead all scorers with 21 points and paired it with five steals and three rebounds.

Not her day at the office

Entering the game, Ohio knew it would have to key in on Eastern Michigan’s Danielle Minott. The 5-foot-8 guard is the Eagles’ leading scorer (15.5 ppg) and can hurt a defense with her ability to pull up or drive and get to the foul line. Minott had one of her worst games of the season against the Bobcats, though. She started the game by missing her first 11 shots (0-7 FG, 0-4 3-pt FG) and with the Bobcats burying the Eagles with 3s, she was never able to find her rhythm. She finished with 17 points going 6-for-26 from the field and 1-for-10 from 3-point range

It’s time to pack

Ohio took advantage of its two-game homestand this week by beating against Kent State and Eastern Michigan, but they’ll have to say goodbye to The Convo’s welcoming environment for a little while. Ohio travels to DeKalb, Illinois, to battle Northern Illinois on Wednesday, Jan. 23, and then ends the week Saturday at Bowling Green for an afternoon matchup against the Falcons. Ohio gets to play on its court one more time in January when they welcome rival Miami on Jan. 30.
