9 looks Oscars stars wore on past red carpets

The Oscars’ red carpet is one of the biggest events of the year, where stars glam up in refined looks that are unique to the polished event.

The lineup of stars who will attend the 91st Academy Awards is filled with style icons who have been catching eyes on red carpets of all kinds for years. Here are the nine best looks Oscars stars wore on past red carpets:

Lupita Nyong’o has a definitive red carpet style that she has become known for. The Black Panther star and uncontested queen of twirling in flowy gowns will likely wear something similar to this green Gucci number she wore in 2015 on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet to the 2019 Oscars.

Emma Stone

In 2017, a.k.a. the year of La La Land, Emma Stone blessed the world with a number of dazzling red carpet looks. The custom Valentino she wore to the 2017 Golden Globe Awards suited her perfectly both in cut and color.

Chadwick Boseman

In a sea of plain black tuxedos, Chadwick Boseman nearly always stands out. He turned heads with this longline black jacket and embellished lapels at the Oscars last year, and with Black Panther nominated for Best Picture this year, he’ll surely dress to impress once again.

Brie Larson

Brie Larson, who stars in the highly anticipated Captain Marvel out next month, is returning to the Oscars this year as a presenter. She floated down the red carpet in this blue belted Gucci gown at the Oscars in 2016 when she won Best Actress for her role in Room.

Lady Gaga

Known for her outrageous red carpet looks early in her career, Lady Gaga seems to have refined her style in recent years. She wore this Brandon Maxwell pantsuit to the Oscars in 2016, and it’s likely she’ll wear something similarly original, yet polished, to the 2019 awards.

Emily Blunt

Historically, Emily Blunt has opted for subtle colors and detail in her red carpet looks. But that doesn’t make the Mary Poppins Returns and A Quiet Place leading lady look any less than stunning. This white tulle Yanina Couture gown she wore to the Mary Poppins Returns premier looked like something from a fairy tale.

Saoirse Ronan

As one of the most acclaimed young stunners in Hollywood, Saoirse Ronan has been generating buzz on screen and on the red carpet. The Mary Queen of Scots star is a clear fan of pink, and she looked lovely in this Michael Kors design at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2016.

Rami Malek

If Freddie Mercury could see the actor chosen to portray him in Bohemian Rhapsody, he likely would have approved of his fashion choices. Another man reluctant to adhere to the black tux trend, Malek regularly turns heads in interesting color choices like this patterned Dior ensemble he wore to the 2017 SAG Awards.

Charlize Theron

The strikingly beautiful Charlize Theron is commonly seen on red carpets in plunging V-neck gowns. As a presenter this year, perhaps she’ll wear something similar to this elegant black mermaid silhouette by Dior.
