Ohio picked up a crucial conference win Saturday when it outlasted Kent State at the M.A.C. Center 69-67. The win keeps Ohio in the hunt for the Mid-American Conference Championship.
Here are three takeaways from Ohio’s win over Kent State.
Ohio (22-3, 11-3 MAC) improved to 9-1 on the road with the win Saturday. By holding off the Golden Flashes in the fourth quarter, Ohio showed again that it can win in hostile territory. The Bobcats will have to continue to show that grit in the final stretch of the season if they hope to win a conference title.
Redshirt freshman Erica Johnson recorded her third career double-double in the win. She had a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. Ohio is a team loaded with talent but it seems like Johnson is elite. Her ability to take over games this season shows that the Bobcats will be among the MAC’s best teams for a while.
For the second time this season, junior guard Amani Burke came through for Ohio in a clutch moment. The Bobcats remembered how Burke topped off her 10 point, 10 rebound performance with the go-ahead basket in Ohio’s overtime win a Buffalo, so they decided to go back to her with 44 seconds remaining with the game tied at 67.
She didn’t disappoint.
