Wrestling: Bobcats down Central Michigan, win 19-15

Ohio (5-4, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) won its second match in a row on Sunday in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, defeating Central Michigan in a dual meet.

The Bobcats won the first five of six bouts to post a strong 19-3 lead and an eventual 19-15 victory, securing their third straight MAC win.

Senior Cam Kelly and redshirt junior Shakur Laney gave the Bobcats much of the padding they needed for the dual, with Laney winning by forfeit and Kelly stacking up an extra 4 points from a major decision victory. Kelly’s victory was his first major decision victory this season and makes him now 4-0 in conference duals on the season.

Despite the strong start from Ohio, Central Michigan quickly bounced back. Winning the last four bouts, including losses from Zack Parker and Derek Hillman, the massive lead Ohio earned was torn down as swiftly as it was built up.

Although the Chippewas won the final four bouts, the Bobcats still came out on top. The bouts were split, with both the Bobcats and Chippewas winning five.

The Bobcats return to The Convo this weekend for a two-match stint to close out their home matches for the season. Old Dominion will square off Friday at 6 p.m. and SIU Edwardsville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
