Neil Romanosky named next Dean of University Libraries

Neil Romanosky, the current associate chief librarian for Science Research and Information at University of Toronto Libraries, was named the next dean of University Libraries.

Chaden Djalali, executive vice president and provost, announced a search committee for a new dean of libraries in October. That was in response to OU’s 10-year dean of libraries, Scott Seaman, announcing that he would retire at the end of 2018. Now that Romanosky has been selected, he will take on the title of dean of libraries on Sept. 1, according to an Ohio University media release.

“I have great confidence in Dean Romanosky’s ability not only to lead OHIO’s libraries, but to advance the University’s strategic goals and support faculty and student research toward a goal of an increased research profile of Ohio University,” Djalali said in the release. “I am pleased that the search committee helped to select such a promising leader. We have an excellent staff and I am excited to see how, under our new Dean’s leadership, the Libraries will continue to enhance support of student engagement and academic excellence.”

Romanosky held several library positions prior to his current position in Toronto. Romanosky worked at New York University Health Sciences Library under several titles. Those include assistant director of operations and department administrator, assistant director for program management and network services at the National Network of Libraries Medicine in the Middle Atlantic region and network services coordinator at the National Network of Libraries Medicine. Romanosky also worked at Columbia University Libraries.

Romanosky has several masters degrees, including a masters of science in library and information science from Pratt Institute. He also has a masters in organizational development and change and a masters in communication and information studies. He is working on a doctoral degree in organizational development and change at Fielding Graduate University.

Romanosky will oversee the library at OU’s Athens campus. His duties will also include overseeing operations at the Hwa-Wei Lee Library Annex on Columbus Road. Promoting One Ohio University integration will also be one of Romanosky’s duties.

Janet Hulm is currently serving as the interim dean of libraries. Hulm was previously the associate dean of libraries and was promoted to interim dean in January. She will continue to hold that position until the end of August.
