Softball: Ohio opens conference play with a win

Ohio defeated Bowling Green 7-2 on Friday to open up its Mid-American Conference schedule with a win.

Offense

Behind the bats of Morgan Geno and Katie Yun, the Bobcats found holes in the Falcons defense. In the bottom of the first, Geno hit a soft pop-fly into left center field that sent Yun home from second base.

Yun returned the favor for Ohio (19-10, 1-0 MAC) in the bottom of the third when she hit a two-run home run outside of center field. Yun’s home run was her first of two in the game as she hit her second in the bottom of the sixth.

Her two home runs are her fifth in two games after she had three on March 20 at Pitt.

Allie Englant’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth gave Ohio its fourth run as Caroline Spacek reached home. Bowling Green errors allowed for Mackenzie Brunswick to reach home and give Ohio its fifth run.

Ohio scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with the aforementioned Yun home run and a Geno RBI that sent catcher Natalie Alvarez home for the seventh and final run of the day.

Defense

Sophomore Madi McCrady pitched a complete game where she gave up just two runs on five hits. She pitched nine strikeouts on a total of 120 pitches. McCrady’s record on the season improved to 11-6 and 1-0 in MAC play.

In the field, Ohio committed zero errors.

Other notes

Coach Kenzie Roark opened her home debut with a win. It is the fourth consecutive game where the Bobcats have defeated the Falcons. Overall, Ohio hasn’t lost a home conference game since April 12, 2017 against Kent State in a 1-0 final.
