Ohio traveled to Akron on Saturday to do battle with the Zips in a Mid-American Conference matchup. After suffering a 30-point blowout Wednesday, Ohio bounced back defeating Akron 81-71.
Here are three takeaways from Ohio’s win over at James A. Rhodes Arena:
Confidence is key
In the offseason, point guard Cece Hooks worked tirelessly to improve her 3-point shooting. For most of the season, though, she has yet to successfully implement it. At least she had up until Saturday. Within the first five minutes of the game, Hooks had already made three 3s. So, what was the difference Saturday from the entire year? Confidence. Hooks had plays designed for her to get open and she didn’t hesitate with she was left open.
With Hooks being able to drive and shoot, she made it a long night for the Zips finishing with 31 points.
Life’s never easy in the MAC
Despite notching another conference win, it wasn’t easy for Ohio. The Bobcats lead for the entire game, but Akron never went away, oftentimes slimming Ohio’s lead to six points at various points in the game. It’s been the story all season for Ohio, even when it wins it’s tough.
One more away from history
Ohio coach Bob Boldon entered Saturday with one goal on his mind — getting a road win. It’s that just win mentality that has produced so much of his success at Ohio and is another reason why he tied the Ohio record for all-time wins. With the win he secured his 123rd .
