Julie Cromer named Ohio's next athletic director

The Ohio athletic department announced Thursday that Julie Cromer will be the program’s next athletic director.

Cromer will take office starting Aug. 31 and was one of four finalists for the position after a nationwide search was conducted to replace former athletic director Jim Schaus, who left the Bobcats to serve as commissioner of the Southern Conference in June.

“We’re excited to welcome Julie to my leadership team,“ President Nellis said in the release. “Her talent, vision and passion for intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete experience will only serve to elevate our athletic program and our university.”

Cromer will serve as Ohio’s first female athletic director and joins Western Michigan’s Kathy Beauregard and Ball State’s Beth Goetz as a female athletic director in the Mid-American Conference.

Cromer most recently served as senior deputy athletics director at the University of Arkansas, where she also served as an associate vice chancellor and a senior woman administrator for its athletic department.

She is also on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors and is on the board of directors for the Women Leaders in College Sports.

The Ohio athletic department will introduce Cromer to the community with a press conference on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. in the Perry and Sandy Sook Academic Center.
