Athens Football: Bulldogs take on Wellston in TVC-Ohio showdown for first place

Athens’ victory over Meigs last Friday — a 60-24 blowout — almost erased the crumbling loss the week prior.

It gave the Bulldogs what they needed as they head into perhaps their biggest game of the season with a conference title shot on the line when they travel to Wellston for a major Try-Valley Conference game on Friday.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday at C.H. Jones Field.

How to listen:

970 WATH will have a radio broadcast.

News and Notes:

- Athens and Wellston will play for first place in the TVC-Ohio on Friday. Though the Bulldogs (3-4, 3-0 TVC-Ohio) are currently in second place, just behind the Golden Rockets (6-1, 3-0 TVC-Ohio). With only three games left in the regular season, Athens would have a decent chance of clinching the conference title if it can defeat Wellston.

- Last week quarterback Joey Moore put up 164 passing yards and 134 rushing yards for two touchdowns. Corbin Stalder, Peyton Gail, Braeden Halbert, Brayden Markins and Levi Neal all managed to get in the end zone. The offense may need to continue this level of scoring if they want to beat Wellston, who averages 29.4 points per game.
