5 anticipated rap albums of 2020

2019 was not the brightest year for hip-hop as a whole. Last year lacked in quality albums from quality artists, but hopefully that changes in 2020. With many of the top artists being relatively quiet recently, fans and listeners alike are all hoping that they will release something in the coming months. Here are five rap artists that we’re hoping to get projects from this year:

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar has been known for going AWOL between releases, but his latest solo release, DAMN., was released all the way back in April 2017. Although he was seen on the majority of the incredible Black Panther soundtrack, we are approaching the three-year anniversary of his latest solo project, which should make it time for another project from Kung Fu Kenny.

Big Sean

There has been a consistency of two-year gaps between projects in Big Sean’s discography. With album releases in 2013, 2015, and his latest in 2017, we are long overdue for a new Big Sean release. With the hope of a new album this year, Big Sean can look to be put back in the conversation of best rappers out right now. He has shown very bright moments in his previous albums, and hopefully he’ll be able to capitalize on those to make a great project in 2020.

Joey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$ released one of the best rap projects of the year in 2017 with All-Amerikkkan Bada$$. Since then, he played an integral role on Beast Coast’s Escape From New York album in 2019. Joey Bada$$ has been showing massive amounts of progression and maturity throughout his discography, and hopefully there will be more progression with a new solo project in 2020.

Lil Uzi Vert

Lil Uzi Vert has been teasing his upcoming project, Eternal Atake, for years now. With label-related issues and a long hiatus, chances of getting the album seem slim to none. However, with the release of “Futsal Shuffle 2020” in December 2019, a new project may be on the way soon. With the amount of waiting and the hype Eternal Atake has been getting, fans should be hoping to hear Uzi’s best album yet this year.

Drake

Let’s be honest, we’d all love to hear a new Drake project in 2020. There hasn’t been a new solo project from Drake since the overwhelmingly long Scorpion in 2018. With every release, Drake seems to provide listeners with new themes and styles in his music, and it’s exciting to see what direction he’ll take listeners on with future projects. With Scorpion being below average for a lot of listeners, Drake should be trying to bounce back with a new album that can help keep him on top for the second decade in a row.
